It's time to start thinking about exams! We'll be back for one week of regular class before they start and there's a lot to review.

The best way to study for an exam is to look over your old tests and quizzes and re-try problems. Don't assume that because you got a problem correct then that you would get it correct now! If you're not sure about something (like a specific topic or a formula) check out your chapter reviews, your notes, or even your book! The chapter reviews in the book are broken down by section and have example problems worked out - what a great resource!

Your exam will consist of multiple choice questions. Here are some review problems that will be very similar to those on the exam.

Today's notes on factoring.... Remember, GCF first!!!

Tuesday, December 15, 2009

Some of you seem to have had trouble studying for tests (not that I've graded today's yet... I'm just thinking of the reviews that weren't completed and the questions that were asked before you took it.).

Please read this blog post written by a math teacher! It has some great ideas as you get ready for exams... they're not too far away!

Here are the answers to today's review sheet. Please look over them and check your answers! If you've done something wrong you need to find it and fix it!!

Not that any of you should be wasting lots of time playing computer games, but I just found a cool new one. Simple, yet tricky. http://continuitygame.com/

Here are the answers to tonight's review sheet!

And I just realized that I never put the notes up from multiplying matrices (last Thursday). So here they are, too:

Want a free homework problem? (Or just help with one?) Here's #8 from tonight's assignment. Try it on your own, then if you're having trouble check out the video!

And here are today's notes:

Hi guys (and gals)...

Remember, the review worksheets that were attached to your quiz on Thursday are due on MONDAY!! I just did two of the problems from the "Graphing Systems of Inequalities" one that I thought it might help to see. (I talked through them, too, but then realized that my computer doesn't have a mic. Oh well.) If you're having trouble graphing lines, absolute values, or inequalities, please check it out! (Then keep scrolling down - there's even more!)

I'm sure you'll all be happy to know that I fixed the mic problem. So here's some help on how to set up the systems for the last two problems on WS 3.4 (#2). If you're having trouble, watch, listen, and then try it on your own!

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

Here are the notes from today:

Systems of inequalities for your homework problems:
#23. x = yellow cake, y = strawberry cake
because we can't have negative cakes, x >= 0, y >= 0
2 hours for yellow and 3 hours for strawberry: 2x + 3y <= 450
Revenue: 25x + 35y

#25. x = play houses, y = sheds
we can't have negative houses/sheds, so x >= 0 and y >= 0
2.5x + 2y <= 20
x + y <= 45

Here are the answers for your review worksheet... check 'em!

Here are today's notes on Translating Functions (2.7)

And I just realized I hadn't gotten the piecewise function notes on here.. oops! So here you go! :)

Remember, if you need help, GET IT!! If you don't understand something, avoidance won't work.

Here are today's notes on Scatter plots (2.5):

Remember, your calculator directions are on the second (back) page of your notes. Please keep them handy to help you create scatter plots on your calculators!

If you still need to get a graphing calculator, I'd try Amazon or ebay .

Here are today's notes!

Remember, you have two ways to write the equation of a line: slope-intercept (if given a point (0, b)) or point-slope (if you don't know b!). Remind me tomorrow to show you how you can get around using the point-slope form.

So sorry about the assignment this weekend. Not! :) But have a good one, anyway!

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

We finished up chapter 1 today and I'd like you to take a moment to reflect. Please leave a comment down below (click on the "comment" option in red) by Friday 9/18.

Some things I'd like you to think about and respond to:
  • How are things going so far?
  • Are you happy with your progress?
  • Is there anything that you need to do differently to be more successful?
  • Is there anything you would like me to do differently to help you be more successful?
  • If you aren't doing well, have you been seeking help (either in class or with a tutor outside of class)?

If you are doing well, that's awesome... keep it up! :)

Who's been checking this out?

From now until Friday, Sept 18th, I will give anyone who leaves a comment on one of the previous posts extra credit. (This would be limited to my Algebra 2 class, of course!)

If you gave me an e-mail address, I just sent you an invitation to become a writer on the blog. If you didn't get the invite, please let me know! I probably had a typo or something when entering your address. If you didn't give me an e-mail address, let me know and we can figure something out to get you on here.

Hey guys -

I was just doing the worksheet that I gave you for homework and I found a mistake on it. I hope you realize that it won't be my last one for the year! :)

On problem #10 (the quarterback rating one), Carson couldn't have attempted 75 passes and completed 129. Duh. Switch those, please! (Megan, I think you were trying to tell me this, but I didn't get what you were saying!)

If you don't see this post, hopefully you recognized that.
